The Obama PageReturn
|
What is The Obama Page? The Obama Page is an examination of the absurdities of Obama policies, statements, political inferences and just plain stupidity. It is this administration's view that the Free Enterprise has failed and without government intervention many indigents and other deserving Americans will be forgotten. Attempts to permanently alter the current structure of economic enterprise in favor of a more "egalitarian society" are already in progress. This is an experiment that has been tried historically and has failed miserably. And yet, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, this administration with the aid of a power-intoxicated Congress is determined to repeat history regardless of the very real and disturbing consequences. The Taboo Party has already demonstrated its concern for the future of our unique system of government and how this administration is determined to dismantle two hundred years of progress. Don't let them succeed by Throwing All Bums Out of Office.

What is The Taboo Party?Taboo is an acronym for Throw All Bums Out of OfficeConventional wisdom suggests that it is: Taboo to vote against Party Affiliations, Conventional wisdom has brought us to where we are today. We are mired in elected officials who ignore the will of the people they allegedly represent. We have Politicians who are so deeply entrenched in the fabric of political power that they are almost impossible to unseat. And our faith in the political process for bringing change we so desperately need and can believe in is suspect. The Taboo Party is one of our last bastions of hope for extricating ourselves from the ruinous behavior of two classes of scurrilous politicians: the Career Politicians and Politicians who vote against Term Limits. |

Taboo Party Support
The Taboo Party announces the candidates it supports for the 2010 US Congressional and State elections. The Taboo Party supports all Challengers to Incumbents. Some Challengers have chosen to sign a pledge in affiliation with the Americans for Tax Reform movement and others have by their strength of character and conviction in affirmation of their commitment to their constituents similarly pledged their honor. All are worthy of our serious consideration and support. Our united intentions are to reverse the Anti-Liberty trends all patriots have witnessed with this current Administration and Congress. The Taboo Party anticipates several other Challenger listings for the 2010 US Congressional and State elections. All new additions will be announced on the Main Page. |

Freedom Rings True
At a time in our country when our freedoms and the free enterprise system are under assault by an egalitarian fervor, we must unite around candidates who have never wavered in their constitutional and conservative principles. There are many charlatans who have switched parties, sought the favor of Career Politicians and speak eloquently of the great changes and hope that will prevail upon their election. These charlatans in an effort to gain only support from a weary electorate will promise anything to get elected. We must remain alert and skeptical of their rhetoric. Too much is at stake. The very future of our Republic, the solvency of the United States and hopeful prospects for future generations are all at considerable risk. Never before in our history save the advent of World War II have we faced such potential peril to our way of life and our standard of living. The only change and hope we need is to restore our country to its former greatness. There is only one type of candidate that deserves our attention who prefers to honor the long-standing principles of our Founding Fathers. These patriots understand that a free people can only exist in a free nation. All others who preach that our political system embraces social injustice and demand a strong central government are not worthy of our serious consideration. That is precisely why the Taboo Party freely and unequivocally endorses true conservative Challengers for public office. Trust your instincts and let |

Glory Days
|
The Taboo Party supports Challengers over any Incumbent.Incumbents have forgotten the will of the people and abide by the will of the Special Interests. There is a new breed of Challengers emerging on the political scene that is not encumbered by partisan politics or wait-your-turn seniority. They want to honor the patriots that fought for limited government and the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all American citizens. These Challengers want to bring back the fairness and respectability that once made America great. The Taboo Party wants to help these Challengers attain their goal. By creating turnover in government, the Special Interests will have less influence over the Career Politicians and the next generation of Americans will experience government as our Founding Fathers intended, servants of the People.Join the groundswell of support for restoring faith in democracy and our Republic form of Government. Join The Taboo Party. |

Every generation experiences "Glory Days". They are burnt into our memories as one of the most nostalgic periods of our lives. Usually they represent our bygone youth and we nostalgically cling to that perception of better times. That may account for the popularity of that song by the same name. But what is it about the Glory Days that we revere? Maybe it is that childlike quality that we admire. Maybe it is the simpler, uncomplicated life of growing up and leaving your youth behind to which we aspire. Maybe it is the wholesomeness that is missing in today's world that we all desire. Maybe it is the lack of honesty and integrity in our political leaders that now ignites our ire. When we were children, the summer days were endless; riding our bikes all day was effortless; playing games was tireless and birthday parties were boundless. These were the glory days of childhood that we admire. Adolescence introduced us to greater responsibility. At the transition from childhood to adolescence, we already knew of responsibility. Helping around the house, taking care of siblings, assisting the elderly - all contributed to our sense of family obligations. Towards the end of this critical transition, we understood the importance of properly preparing for adulthood by assuming greater responsibility. These were the glory days of growing up and leaving our youth behind to which we aspire. As adults we have witnessed innumerable changes during our lifetime and rarely resentfully, sometimes begrudgingly and frequently heartbreakingly have had to adjust to the demands of the new world. Just as much as we longed for the wholesomeness of our youth, we wanted to return to a simpler life. These were the glory days and the wholesomeness that is missing in today's world that we all desire. Prior to this time many turned to our political leaders to solve the ills that afflicted our society. But our leaders had other ideas. Their strategy consisted of smoke screens and mirrors. Promise them anything, get reelected and devise the most convoluted legislation that ultimately will cripple the very systems devised to solve the problems. Political stagnation and impenetrable bureaucracy divert our attentions from the real problems at hand. During this era we became disillusioned and frustrated with the external influences imposed upon our lives that have made it infinitely more complicated for us. Stifling educational costs, escalating oil prices, rising food prices, crippling tax rates are the consequences of these slight-of-hand artists. Before these staggering problems engulfed us we reveled in the glory days without the lack of honesty and integrity in our leaders that now ignites our ire. We sometimes pine for the simpler life and our childhood but we realize those days are long gone. Towards the end of our life we will once again confront our longing for the simpler life of childhood. Much time has passed but there is still time to reclaim the innocence of youth, the childlike quality that made the world wholesome again, and restore the simplicity lacking in the world today. Bring back those days by breaking the impasse in DC, ousting the deceptive Career Politicians, restoring that youthful quality and exuberance for the future and reversing the trend towards the loss of our freedom, prosperity and a simpler life. Throw the bums out of office and reclaim your right to your Glory Days. Join the Taboo Party. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". Join The Taboo Party in casting the first vote towards a better way of life and preserving this nation for our posterity and not the Career Politician's posterior. It used to be that the good guys wore white hats. All the old time westerns followed that basic premise. Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger and the Cisco Kid - all heroes of the early westerns wore white hats. Any pistol packing, double-holstered kid knew that! As we grew up we learned that few "contemporary heroes" wore hats, let alone white. So it was not easy to identify the good guys. We had to resort to other methods. We tried to align our belief systems with those who closely validated our innermost thoughts about "White Hats" and yesteryear. Politicians understood this symbolic preoccupation with white hats. Politicians are great at painting the picture we want to see. Consequently, it was easy to be drawn into their web of distortion and deceit. We desperately wanted to resurrect the precepts of our youth and believe that they were still wearing white hats. The older we got, however, the less reliable this infatuation became for identifying the good guys. And the more we became disillusioned as we did growing up as kids. So how do we know white hats from black hats, right actions from wrong actions, good deeds from evil deeds? We follow our hearts, use good judgment and stick to our beliefs. But that alone won't keep the politicians honest. You have to provide an incentive to our politicians to wear white hats. If they refuse to put them on and start riding into the sunset in search of wrongdoing and fighting the outlaws, then it is time to turn them out to pasture. Let them return to the open range where they can do little harm to the civilized world. There is only one way to do that and it is to vote them out of office. Not every lawman. Just the ones who won't wear white hats. The ones who want to die in the saddle and won't vote for term limits. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". Join The Taboo Party in casting the first vote towards a better way of life and preserving this nation for our posterity and not the Career Politician's posterior. Absolute Freedom is the absence of all restrictions. Since we are a civilization governed by laws, there must be some concessions to the concept of absolute freedom. Otherwise, there would be no civil or expedient way of resolving disputes that may arise from the individual's pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. If Absolute Freedom represents one end of the political spectrum, then the other end must be a political organization that, at its base, does not cherish freedom. At its inception, the United States Constitution sought to protect the inalienable rights of its citizens and to preserve the intent of freedom to ourselves and our posterity through limited government. But the trend of our modern government departs dramatically from this premise and creates a different standard that is substantively independent of individual contributions. Thus continues the journey away from what the Founding Fathers envisioned as the exclusive domain of rugged individualism towards socially and historically flawed attempts at state-determined outcomes of collective codependency. What accounts for this radical departure and preoccupation with alternative forms of government? And what mechanism does government use to justify this departure? In our relatively short history the Great Depression was a social and economic catastrophe that had significantly shaken the political temperament. With the enormous suffering Americans endured during the depression, a tremendous ground swell of compassion for the down-trodden and unfortunate souls of that era led politicians to enact legislation for eliminating these abhorrent conditions. A plethora of programs logically followed and for the first time in our history, an income tax eventually became the accepted mechanism for redistributing wealth and securing the blessings of liberty. Whatever social injustices this new political direction attempted to correct, one can rest assured that it did not gain its impetus from the belief in individual rights and self-determination. At first, who could argue with this compromise of our political absolute and the outpouring of compassion for our fellow man? And it appeared to be the "right thing" to do for our disenfranchised citizenry. But the extent to which this approach has progressed is a subject for informed discourse. The burgeoning receipts needed to finance our experiment in eliminating human suffering have caused many to question its unabated continuance. What makes most Americans shutter today is the realization of fleeting prospects for their own financial security, advanced education opportunities for their families, affordable health care for all and the dimming of the American dream of home ownership. Ironically, the reason that caused us to break free of the strangle-hold our parent country imposed upon us is quickly becoming the same reason for our present diminution of prosperity and freedom: oppressive taxation. The Monarchy of King George had unquestionable authority to tax his subjects. The Career Politicians of "Our Monarchy" are self-imbued with a similar authority. In both cases this aura of invincibility will not go unchallenged. Reverse the trend towards higher and higher taxation and less and less freedom by supporting term limits. Join the Taboo Party. At first glance Washington and Hollywood seem worlds apart. They are on different coasts that symbolize different cultures. The common stereotypes suggest that the Washington crowds are the stiff collared "workaholics" engaged in the public good and the Hollywood "jet setters" are the party hardy, surfer dudes. But that is precisely where these superficial and simplistic dissimilarities end. When viewed from William Shakespeare's well-known line "All the world's a stage" the real similarities become striking. The Shakespeare analogy implies that we are all actors on the world stage. Therefore, Washington and Hollywood are intrinsically the same. Both are in the business of developing and producing a leading man or lady. Both produce extravaganzas intended to gain favor with the viewing public. Both solicit the expertise and support of an army of dedicated personnel with specialized skills. Both use special effects to make the presentation more profound and surrealistic. Both are not particularly driven by recorded history, facts or truthful perceptions. In fact, both take license with truth since the opposite is more enticing, entertaining and richly rewarding. Both know that it is all about the money and power. Both pay homage to their heritage, extol its virtues and honor each other ceremoniously but act in a manner completely contrary to their position in life. Both maintain an image of divine right and rights of passage rather than appreciate the public to whom they should show their humility, owe their popularity, allegiance and outright devotion. Both flaunt their wealth and privilege in a manner that is insulting to the intelligence and sensibility of hard working Americans. And yet, despite all these apparent hypocrisies, Americans adore their chosen leaders in both Washington and Hollywood. Their patience and tolerance for their unrestrained behavior, however, is gradually and continually degenerating into a love-hate relationship. Many Americans today are feeling betrayed. The spirit and wholesomeness of the America they once knew and understood is emotionally and ethically bankrupt in the corridors of both Washington and Hollywood. Neither seems to represent honesty, integrity and conviction nor is committed to defending the character of what many fought and gave their lives to preserve. Both seem to appeal to the most banal aspects of primitive society without regard for the basic tenets of family, community and preservation of State. These actors on the world stage are adrift on the sea of mediocrity and compromise. Then, what can be done to correct these lapses in fundamental respectability? Send a message to the purveyors of unabashed falsehoods and half-truths to pack their bags. The curtain has descended on their final performance of fanciful illusions. We need a new breed of leading men and women who will return to the basics. Join the Taboo Party. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". There are many warnings in life of pending danger. Darkened clouds and thunder, gale force winds, rising river levels - all natural phenomena. Nature produces other examples outside the physical world. But in all cases the closer the pending danger, the greater the bodily reaction. The sight of a snake is one such example and elicits immediate responses. The autonomic nervous system is the first to react to the potential threat. The system reacts by increasing the pulse rate, squirting adrenaline into the blood stream and elevating the respiration rate dramatically. The brain also reacts by assessing the danger and evoking the fight-flight reaction. Snakes are cunning and use camouflage to their advantage. Their movement goes largely undetected which allows them to survive and "sneak" up on their prey. Most victims are unaware of their quiet stealth. Consequently, these unseemly marauders may bite unwary victims. They strike when confronted, startled or seeking prey. Not all snakes, however, are poised to strike and many harmlessly slither away. Can we coexist with snakes? Snakes may not always be visible but they are always in our presence. We must be vigil in our detection and avoidance of a special type of snake to remain safe and protected. There are four poisonous species in the United States - the rattlers, water moccasin, copperhead and coral. For the most part snakes will leave you alone but there is one species that possesses all the qualities and stealthiness of their "cousins". Herpetologists have recently discovered a new species of poisonous snake that lives on the eastern seaboard. Its habitat is on the shores of the Potomac River. The most remarkable feature of this new species is that they are not poisonous at birth but develop fangs later on as they mature. They are noted for their insidious way of injecting their venom and extracting the lifeblood of their victims. They are vampire snakes. Most victims rarely know they were bitten nor do they recognize the attacker as a snake. When bitten none of the normal bodily reactions are present and there is no impulse for fight or flight. Like the curse of the vampires these victims are uncontrollably drawn to allegiance to the serpent. Even though the markings are clearly diagnostic, the victims think that these new type of serpents mean no harm, aren't dangerous and are beneficial to the climate. And yet, the victims fall prey to these serpents over and over again. There needs to be a campaign to prevent these serpents from developing fangs by somehow limiting their longevity and thereby neutralizing their potential danger. There is! Rid the Snakes of Washington DC by supporting term limits and the Taboo Party. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". We, in the United States of America, have been the standard bearer for the downtrodden and forgotten peoples of the world. We are the beacon of freedom to which all peoples of the world yearn for the privileges and liberties we, for the most part, have recently taken for granted. By any standard of comparison, we still enjoy liberties that the oppressed peoples of the world can only imagine. But there is a new threat to our liberty and freedom that is from within that no despotism is necessary to deprive us of our liberty and can cast us into a shackled existence not unlike the imprisonment of the poor, the undereducated and the dispirited. It pales in comparison to the horrors that men have witnessed in war or the struggles of peoples of the world to be free but it is a constraint to our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, nonetheless. Many Americans are wrought with worry about their future. They are beginning to feel the strife that Americans experienced during the Great Depression. How will they pay their bills, put food on the table, clothe and educate their children, pay their mortgage, receive affordable health care and provide for their declining years? All Americans are feeling the squeeze and are willing to sacrifice, as always, to ensure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. They are willing to sacrifice the decline in their standard of living if only for the short term. That sacrifice has always throughout our history resulted in increased prosperity for all Americans regardless of income strata. But there is a dimming of that light and a real threat to our existence as a free people. There is no danger that the Thought Police as in George Orwells 1984 will permeate your existence. There is no need for that. The Government need not be so subversive or nefarious. Control can be exerted over the citizenry in a more pragmatic manner. If Government becomes the arbiter of last resort and usurps the authority of citizens to independently determine their own fate, then life as we know it in the United States of America will be radically changed. No longer will Adam Smiths Invisible Hand allow the betterment of life through independent actions of the populous. Instead the collective actions as directed and sanctioned by a central authority will determine the fate of the multitude. For the first time in our history all Americans will become enslaved. The shackles of our enslavement are not the chains, leg-irons or other restraints that is part of our shameful past, but rather an internment that enslaves our soul. The felon is not a single person but a fiscally irresponsible Government. Not a benevolent and well-intentioned central authority but rather the means that empowers the central authority, taxation. As Americans work harder and longer to satisfy their daily needs in an attempt to determine their own destiny, the reality of the increased burden of taxation engulfs their very existence. The leisure they once knew as the accoutrements of freedom will become a thing of the past for this generation and generations to come. The abuse of the powerful as embodied in our tax code will write another chapter in history and the United States of America, the last vestige of freedoms torch, will grow a little dimmer. There is still time remaining to reverse this trend and bring sanity and benevolence to Washington and free our beloved country from menacing taxation. We must ensure the blessings of liberty for us and our posterity. Join the Taboo Party and Throw All Bums Out of Office who are spending and taxing ruinously. President's Oath of Office: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States". Supreme Court Oath of Office: "I do solemnly swear that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as Justice under the Constitution and the laws of the United States. So help me God". Congressional Oath of Office: "I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States". All this swearing! Has it made them keep their promises? There is dramatic difference between paying tribute to the Constitution and honoring the spirit of the Constitution. For the most part Congressmen have worked within its framework but recent developments within the last decade or more a new form of political "statesmenship" has caused us to do a lot of swearing too. Faithfully conducting the people's business for the betterment of our society, however, is quite a different matter. In keeping with the separation of powers each branch is charged with different obligations under the Constitution. The President defends the Constitution. The Supreme Court Justices perform duties regarding the laws of the United States. The Congress supports the Constitution. Of the three branches of government only Congress is the branch over which we can exercise any substantial influence. Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life and are beyond any influence. Voting elects a Presidential candidate every four years with an effective term limit of eight years. There are no term limits levied upon Congressmen. Congressmen, however, can become Career Politicians by simply being reelected. But did the Founding Fathers ever intend for their term to be limitless? Initially, the composition of Congress consisted of Farmers, Coppersmiths, Print-setters, Blacksmiths, Carpenters, Butchers, Bakers and other respectable occupations. Throughout our history Congressmen were drawn from the general populous and they considered public service a civic duty. At the end of serving their term, most would retire from office, return to private life and manage their business affairs. Today, the composition is drawn principally from the legal profession. The Founding Fathers could not anticipate or conceive that the legislative body would eventually be comprised of mostly lawyers. Since attorneys are practitioners of law, having attorneys serve in office would be entirely fitting and practical to the Founding Fathers. Many of the original Framers of the Constitution were practicing attorneys so it was not unusual to have them in office. But they may have considered a majority of lawyers in Congress as not truly representative of their constituents. They have always favored pluralism in government and were somewhat dubious of any homogenous power base. Although lawyers are the artisans of scripting law, their products seem sterile, unimaginative, devoid of the grist of the American soul and removed from the trials and tribulations of what the general population endures. Congressmen of early America were our neighbors. They attended community festivities, celebrated accomplishments and events as our brethren. They worshipped together. They engaged the common man and knew of the hardships they faced. Grass root connections for today's Congressmen are tenuous at best and are orchestrated and choreographed by their staff. They seem aloft, distant, removed and unable to engage in meaningfully dialogue with their constituents. They may do so in verse and speech but their life styles remove them from the "vulgaries" of the simple and wholesome life of the common man. The political landscape has changed over the last 200 years and it makes one question if the intentions of our present political leaders are as honorable as their astute predecessors. Many voters are so thoroughly disgusted with the elected officials that they desperately want change but feel powerless to take action. In the current environment, challengers to the incumbency face an uphill battle. Challengers may convey real compassion and determination to change the "politics as usual" but all advantages fall with the incumbent. The elected officials are in campaigning mode from the time they enter office. They are adept at making deals, wielding power and assuring that any challenger is at a decided disadvantage. They have solidified the financial connections; understand "jaw-boning" and "arm-twisting". They campaign with fervor and give the impression they are aligned with our deep, abiding principles and beliefs but all their promises are soon forgotten after the election results. Once in office they create special interest "oracles" and impose their belief systems upon us rather than representing the prevailing majority opinion of their constituents. Concerned Americans are watching their freedoms erode and feel powerless to do anything. Then how do we convince our Congressmen to abide by the people's wishes? Much of the current voter apathy is directly related to the erroneous perception that their vote doesn't count. The Founding Fathers gave us the one mechanism designed to correct excesses, abuses and imbalances. It is the most powerful tool at our disposal and the Founding Fathers knew that it must reside in our arsenal to check and balance our government. Exercise your influence. Vote against the Incumbent and support Term Limits. Join the Taboo Party. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure Domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Defense, promote the General Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." How many of us could recite the Preamble to the Constitution? It was required in the study of US History and Civics at one time. Maybe it's time to resurrect this course requirement. The Preamble is the perfect "intro" to the Constitution because it sets the stage for understanding our Republic. It is analogous to a manufacturing manifesto. It specifies the allocation of management and power and the division and specialization of labor and the rights and responsibilities of all. Although everyone has heard the expression, "of the people, for the people, by the people", it does not mean that the people are directly involved in the decision-making process. Since our political system is a representative form of government, the people it represents are generally on the sidelines watching the action as if it were some kind of sporting event. The real players command the big salaries and fringe benefits but the difference between these players and those in professional sports is their record. If the professional players do not perform as expected, they can be traded, benched or released. Our representatives seem immune to these measures. They suffer no consequences for their poor performance and strangely enough they get reelected. How can we measure the performance of our representatives? Certainly not by the mountains of legislation they produce. If there is any doubt, just review the tax code. It is not written for the layperson. It is a job security document for hordes of lawyers and accountants that is inequitable and unjustly complicates our lives. We need quality not quantity. Then what are some criteria that we can use to assess the productivity of our elected officials? Let's evaluate their performance based on the precepts of the Preamble: A more perfect Union: Enumerate the number of the onerous regulations imposed on our small businesses. The number is still rising. The fewer the governmental intrusions into the pursuit of happiness and encumbrances imposed on our liberties, the more perfect the union. Establish Justice: Courts interpret law as passed by the Legislative branch of government and prescribed by the Constitution. When a law is enacted by the will of the people through a referendum, intervening courts hearing arguments brought forward by opposing parties and then acting to overturn the result circumvents the intent of the referendum. Unless there is some overriding violation of the principles of law, creating law from the bench does not establish justice. It only serves only to exasperate justice and the will of the people. Insure domestic Tranquility: Confiscating private property by eminent domain to create a mall for lining the pockets of leveraged businessmen and generating revenues for fiscally irresponsible local governments does not insure domestic tranquility. Provide for the common defense: Arguing over appropriations for retrofitting our military vehicles with steel plated armor regardless of your position on war while our soldiers are in harms way is not providing for the common defense. Promote the general Welfare: Our tax "contributions" keep escalating. Whose general welfare are they promoting? Equitable treatment of all citizens assures the general welfare. Not class warfare for welfare. Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity: Are our future generations blessed? They are instead "blessed" with our mounting debt. They will be working harder for less liberty. Assessing the Preamble in this manner clearly identifies the inadequacy of our elected officials. Our Congressmen continue to perform below standards. Just look at their approval ratings - one of the lowest, if not the lowest, in the history of our Republic. If a more objective standard of evaluation of Congressional performance is needed, use these criteria and judge for yourself:
With either standard, Congressmen are trashing the Preamble and complicating our lives needlessly. Let's trade, bench and release our Congressional players. Their performance does not permit them staying in the game. Exercise your influence. Join the Taboo Party. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". Power versus the Public Good is antithetical. In order to work for the public good you must be represented by a position of power. Unchecked power threatens the public good. Our Founding Fathers understood this dichotomy and structured our form of government to have co-equal branches. This maintains the balance of power between the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative branches of government. But one wonders if that balance is becoming skewed? The President is elected to office for a four-year term and may be reelected for a total of eight years. The Supreme Court Justices are appointed to life. And our Congressmen might as well be too. Strom Thurman, Jesse Helms and Robert Byrd were perfect examples. Privilege and patronage is the mainstay of the Career Politician. It is a special club to which only a select few need apply. To attain these exalted positions you must pay your "dues". The Freshman Congressmen don't stand a chance of usurping any real authority or power until they have proven their medal and invited into the inner circles by the Party Leaders. Their invitation is in the form of serving on a subcommittee or doing original research for a more senior Congressmen or consistently showing party allegiance by forming a voting block of another party's bill. Notice, this indoctrination process has nothing to do with the will of the people. It has everything to do with power. Some may claim that public good is accomplished in the wake of the compromise and agreement. I say it is a means of producing mediocre legislation for an ever increasing, disenfranchised and disassociated number of special interests groups and not serving the vested interests of the majority. Yes, vested interests of the majority. It is their tax dollar that is being siphoned away from the collective conscience of the majority to serve the special interest minorities that have the attention of their (not our) Congressmen. I say that is because patronage rules. And it is the most senior members of Congress that understand this dynamic. Seniority and longevity determine the outcomes of important legislation rather than the merits and needs of the people. Longevity is not to be revered in Congress. When Career Politicians look down their spectacles at their constituents and sneer contemptuously, it only further demonstrates their profound disdain for the average man and woman and their favor for special interests. The only time they really coddle you (not to be confused with fondle which may also happen) is just before Election Day. Let's level the playing field and make them walk the balance beam between Power and the Public Good. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". The example of Guns vs. Butter was commonly used in the sixties to illustrate a basic economic principal. It was a familiar characterization that demonstrated relative scarcity of resources and the need for choice. Moving along the hypothetical curve suggests that resources for either guns or butter representing military and consumer goods must be sacrificed to gain an incremental increase in the other goods. A point on the curve indicated a choice between competing interests that signified a balance or stated preference for a mix of consumer and military goods. Proponents of repositioning the point in favor of another position on the curve substantiated their claims with rather convincing arguments on either side in the Guns and Butter debate. Anti-war activists maintained that the resources used for the military produced nothing useful for the consumer and diverted valuable resources away from the production of domestic goods. In fact, they argued, the resources used for any military cause would eventually be destroyed and therefore forgone to consumers. Advocates of a strong defense were quick to respond that consumers cannot exercise their purchasing choice if their freedom to choose in our society was overtly threatened. If the means of production were destroyed by military insurgents or armed conflict, some consumer goods were forgone anyway as a likely consequence of defending our country. A strong military is the only way to prevent prolonged disruptions to production in times of war or global instability in the civilized world, and therefore, protect the consumer's long-term interests. Another concept that originated in the sixties that is still bantered about today and equally as divisive is the Military-Industrial alliance. Unlike the purely economic construct of Guns vs. Butter that explains an accepted principle of scarcity and resource allocation, the Military-Industrial complex is a politically charged issue. Consumer activists maintained that it represents a sinister alignment between the means of production of war implements and the "institution" of war. Proponents portrayed it as a sanctioned economic practice that was beneficial to the general economy. When the defense budget rises, so does the general welfare. In other words, the production of military goods is a driving economic force that produces both consumer goods and implements of war that stimulate economic growth. The expansion of the labor force by munitions workers, for example, generates disposable income and added demand for consumer goods. Although there is a valid correlation and apparent synergy between these two economic sectors, it is far from the dominant economic force today that was true of the sixties. Today's economy is vastly more complicated and intricate in its interrelationships between different sectors. There are many other economic sectors that can influence and determine growth independent of the Military-Industrial complex. On the product side are the Energy and Housing sectors and are on center stage receiving significant attention since they constitute the major portion of the consumer consumption accounts. On the monetary side stability is becoming increasingly more vulnerable to the volatility of the investment funds industry and the international outflow of funds. On the International Balance Sheet the outflow of recent payments for crude oil dwarfs the entire war effort as attributed to the Military-Industrial complex. Any one of these economic issues has a pronounced influence in our growth potential and economic stability or instability. Congress has yet to grapple with any of these issues that greatly impact to our prosperity. Never before in our history save the Great Depression, has our economy appeared so anemic and sluggish. The Military-Industrial complex neither stimulates growth through increased defense spending nor solves or ameliorates the problems in the Energy and Housing markets. Oil independence and profound life style changes are our only defense from the economic onslaught created by increased worldwide demand, the foreign oil producer's limits on supply and our insatiable appetite for petroleum products. The Guns and Butter illustration is just as viable today as it was in the sixties. We need to make some tough choices regarding scarce resources. Congress controls our destiny with land use and drilling restrictions and the failure to promote alternate energy technologies development. But we can expect the usual inaction since Congress is beholding to special interests. Unlike the sixties example of the Military-Industrial complex, there is an unholy alliance between our Congressmen and their special interest dealings. They need to understand some basic economic principles and come to terms with these gargantuan problems that threaten the very security of our nation. Give our representatives an economics lesson. Send them to the unemployment line for failing grades in finance and economics, aversion for making tough choices and for their unholy alliance that threatens to impoverish us all. The wars in Vietnam and Iraq have been referred to as a quagmire. Quagmires are intractable situations from which it is almost impossible to retreat. The Vietnam War ended by withdrawal under the guise of "Peace with Honor". The war in Iraq may have a very different outcome. Regardless of your particular persuasion with respect to the righteousness or irreverence of these wars, there is one quagmire on which we can all agree. There is another war raged in the United States that is centuries old. It is engaged on a common battlefield and throughout history has remarkably resulted in very few casualties. Oh, there were soldiers who were injured but fortunately their injuries amount to nothing more than wounded pride. To engage in this war year after year requires real "Constitution". Without these rules of engagement there would be little hope of victory. But most of the combatants are suffering from extreme battle fatigue. They are weary from prolonged engagements without the prospect of refreshed reinforcements. No longer do they remember the purpose of the war or the values they have pledged to uphold. They blindly follow the dictates of the Generals and faithfully execute their commands. They are good soldiers and understand that they are in the service of their army and their duty is "not to wonder why but to fool and lie". Most civilians support their troops without question. They know they represent the will of the American people. They also know that their servicemen are powerless to change the direction of the war or displace their commanders. They must first accumulate years in service, ascend through the ranks and gain the position of seniority. That takes time. And, not everyone can become senior in command. Besides, would they fight to change the war effort with the same vigor, loyalty and tenacity as they would have in the beginning of their career? They may find it easier to compromise and adopt the practices of their leaders. They may also discover that the Generals are not truly interested in winning and that engaging in skirmishes and maneuvering the troops is infinitely more exciting. Maybe the true motive of their senior officers is to maintain their position of power and do little else. After all, they may think, who else is more qualified to lead the army? Most civilians are restless and beginning to believe that there is no end in sight of this senseless war. The battles are continually fought without any clear winners. And without clear winners, many people suffer needlessly. This war has truly become a quagmire. It is time to revamp the army, relieve the most senior officers of their commission, force them into early retirement and establish a proper enlistment term. Join the Taboo Party. What is your political persuasion: Independent, Libertarian, Socialist, Communist, Democrat, Republican? All through life we have been choosing sides. Whether it is a game of volleyball during gym or working with a benevolent organization for the community. It fulfills a basic need in all of us to belong and be a contributing member. And it also satisfies a need to be on the "winning" side. In America, life is a "team sport". There is much to be said in support of team activities. First there is the notion of teamwork. Working together draws upon all the varied competencies and skills of the team. Character building is a trait commonly attributed to teams. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going". When the goal is for all to do their best, nothing beats teamwork. "Team sports" also teach us that there is strength in unity. We all know that sometime back in our early history the expression, "United We Stand" evolved. When we present a united front in the face of adversity, nothing can defeat us. What kind of teamwork have we seen inside the Beltway, lately? When was the last time you heard any Congressman speak in terms of teamwork or working cooperatively for a greater good? If you have, it is more likely the exception rather than the norm. What we hear emanating from Washington more often than not is partisanship, closed door sessions, filibusters, postponing votes, incriminations, delay tactics, infighting, voting blocks, tabling motions, adjournments, back room deals, stalemate and so on and so on and so on. Our leaders have forgotten all about team play. We need to stand united. We need to form another team because the adversity we are facing from Washington DC threatens our general welfare, peace and tranquility, liberty and our pursuit of happiness. So we have to bench them. Term limits will take them out of play. A new team will replace them and the game won't go into overtime. There is only one team around which we can rally and be victorious. By uniting behind our vote against our representatives that refuse to legislate term limits, we will choose the right side regardless of your political persuasion. The only team that we need to choose is the Taboo Party. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" We all remember that phrase but may not remember the movie. We remember it because it struck a familiar chord. It resonates even today. There is a way, however, to bring rationality and sensibility back to Washington. Although the movie was a step in the right direction, its theme is short of a genuine movement to reverse Washington's excessive trends. Then, what can we do? Congressmen are truly interested in only one thing. Contrary to popular belief, it is not your preservation or the preservation of this nation. They are truly interested only in their own preservation. When was the last time you can remember, they just left you alone in pursuit of your own happiness? Just the opposite is true. They confiscate your hard-earned money and throw it away on programs of questionable effectiveness. Your hard-earned money goes to patronage, political payoffs and buying votes (appointments and tax dollar spending). That is the mainstay of the career politician. What about the issues? Do they really care? They give the appearance that they do but that is part of their strategy. Name any issue of importance to the voter. What progress has your Congressman made in correcting the problem in the last year in the last four decades for that matter? Limited at best. We still have the poor, the homeless, the undereducated, the jobless, the hopeless, the criminals, the lobbyists, et al. And that is exactly what they intend. If they really fixed anything, they would have to pack up and go home. That is exactly what our Founding Fathers did. For them public service was a calling, not a life's pursuit. Yes, there are a few determined individuals who have the heart and soul of their constituents in mind. But they are generally the Freshman Congressmen. And their altruism doesn't last very long as soon as they have either been indoctrinated in the "law of the land" or ostracized by the "ruling gentry". If the new blood provides little hope for the future, what is to be done? There is a radical idea emerging. What if the answer was so simple that it required nothing more than your vote? Yes, that's right but it is a very special vote. It is a vote against all those politicians that have voted against term limits. And what incentive do they have to vote for term limits. Vote themselves out of office!!! That would be heresy. How could they kill the golden goose if they left the task to the lesser qualified? Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Marie Antoinette let them eat cake. Congressmen caucus while the free watch their freedom erode to special interests and political favors. Do we need to care about the other issues? Not, yet. First we must show the career politician the unemployment line. When we have a plurality of short-term politicians we can direct their attentions from reelection to reconstruction of this great land. Fairy tales, urban legends, amusing anecdotes and romantic interludes possess enormous appeal and fascination for igniting our imagination and appearing sometimes more real than life itself. There is a lesson to be learned, however, from all of these fanciful accounts. It may not be intuitively obvious or provide an immediate connection to one's own personal experiences but it is internalized and stored away for future reference. What is amazing is how these intriguing episodes manifest themselves later and are portrayed under seemingly disjointed and unrelated circumstances. The real value that these stories fulfill is their uncanny ability to provide insight and understanding into events that may be totally foreign to our lives. They tend to validate deeply held beliefs about the world around us. Here is an amusing anecdote that underscores this point. Years ago, there was an old tale about a Lieutenant who inspected his soldiers and told the Sargeant that his men smelled bad. The Lieutenant suggested that they change their underwear. The Sargeant responded, "Yes, sir, I'll see to it immediately". He went into the barracks and said, "The Lieutenant thinks you guys smell bad, and wants you to change your underwear. Smith, you change with Jones; McCarthy, you change with Witkowskie; Brown, you change with Schultz. Get to it". The moral: A candidate may promise change in Washington but don't count on things smelling any better. The beauty of this anecdote is the way it captivates the reader and leads them to a parallel conclusion that is irrefutable and quite salient. The reader is satisfied that the moral successfully addressed a truism of life and needs no other explanation or contemplation. Usually that conclusion is correct as it stands but there are instances where additional action is required. Knowing that a hapless child, for example, set a vehicle in motion and it will crash with potentially disastrous results does require immediate action. To stand by idly as a passive observer and do nothing borders on a criminal act. It implies that the individual knowingly shirked his responsibility and is tacitly culpable for a preventable accident. The moral: Every voter should trust his sixth sense: Common Sense and not Political Scents. Take immediate action, prevent another accident and cleanse Washington of fowl odors. There seems to be a disproportionate number of millionaires in high public office as compared to the general population. Well-heeled representatives with bulging wallets hold nearly all seats in Congress. Although it has not been an anomaly throughout history that the rich and powerful assume positions of privilege and influence, in a representative form of government, however, it seems a bit odd. Since our early Congressmen were drawn from a pool of average citizens, wealth and privilege need not be the principal determinate for our ruling class. What may have begun as an experiment with common men serving their government has deteriorated into the customary governance by the wealthy and privileged for determining political leadership. If the selection of political candidates is truly representative, wealth and privilege should be the exception and not the norm. It was once thought that the ruling gentry should be enlisted from the highest stations in life. After all, they had to contend with the most devious, calculating and deceptive scoundrels on earth. This was the exclusive domain of those schooled in the fine art of assuming, maintaining and wielding power. They were the aristocrats, the "Blue Bloods". The general consensus among the Blue Bloods was that commoners lacked the proper background and upbringing, and therefore, were not fit to govern. With their condescending and indignant attitudes they maintained that it was absurd to solicit governance from the lowly dregs scurrying about the alleys like common rats. But that was not what the founders envisioned for our form of government. Our republic was established to represent the average man. Early representatives were drawn from the local civilians whose dedication for making government work for the people was unparalleled in the annals of political thought. They were the harbingers of a new republic that truly represented the people. What a stark contrast to how millions of Americans are represented today. Despite free elections and the electoral process, the accepted practice orchestrated by the political parties is that only the Blue Bloods need apply. It appears that we have come full circle and have allowed the new aristocracy under the control of the political parties to regain a foothold in determining how power is allocated. The average man is no longer a part of the political process with the singular exception of voting. Do our elected millionaires appropriately represent the cross-section of our general population? If they did, in terms of wealth alone, the general population would overwhelmingly be reflective of their well-heeled representatives with bulging wallets. That is clearly not the case. Many citizens are struggling under our elected officials onerous practice of excessive taxation and irresponsible spending. It has become increasingly harder for the average American to attain that exalted status of a millionaire not because they lack the personal fortitude or the business acumen, but rather, government gets in the way of the individual's pursuit of happiness. Our Congressmen, like the aristocracies of the past, believe no one else is more deserving of the finer things in life and its accoutrements than the ruling gentry. The "let them eat cake" philosophy has become the de facto standard of our leaders. Our "ruling gentry" literally takes liberties from their "subjects" by bestowing upon them rules and regulations that encumber their daily lives and assures their station in life. Our representatives pompously exempt themselves from these horrid rules. Changes in our health care system demonstrate how their tinkering has caused more difficulties than improvements in service delivery. Everyone now pays a premium for piles of bureaucratic paperwork that has choked the system. The result is that many doctors will not accept Medicare or Medicare recipients as patients. They are redirected in their practice from medical care for all to medical care for some as an austerity measure to abate rising medical costs. The irony is that our Congressmen believe this brilliant solution will stem the rising cost of health care by capping the cost on many procedures. Our Congressmen by contrast enjoy free health care without the indignities we are forced to endure. Let them eat cake again is their battle cry! We can thank our fearless leaders for the sanctioned scam called the Social Security Trust Fund. There is nothing wrong with the practice of borrowing against equity. There is a limit, however, on what risk is reasonable. Although a sensible practice for the financially responsible, left to the devices of the fiscally inept or shamelessly fraudulent Congressmen can be disastrous. It was never intended that Congress borrow 100% of your Social Security retirement funds to finance questionable ventures that ultimately result in ever increasing Social Security contributions (almost yearly) to sustain meager payouts to the older population. Aside from the fact that the paltry payout is nothing short of licensed thievery over the term of the contributions, it testifies to how Congress views the value of their constituents. By contrast, all Congressmen are guaranteed full retirement benefits from their exclusive fund, our tax pool. Let them eat cake! The gas shortage and sub-prime housing crisis are just more examples of our Congressmen's cowardly approach to conflict resolution. The American people have voiced their displeasure and categorically stated that we need more domestic oil and do not want a housing bailout. Despite the overwhelming frustration from a sizeable majority of Americans, Congress fails to act decisively. They do not do what is good for the country but only that which is expedient for their special interest groups. Again, let them eat cake! These are just a few of the innumerable examples of how much disdain our leaders have for the average working man and woman. Slowly and almost imperceptibly they have shielded themselves from both public scrutiny and accountability. No longer are the people free to pursue life, liberty and happiness as long as their elected officials confiscate their hard earned monies and squander it with reckless abandon without consequence. By acting irresponsibly, they have forfeited their right to govern. Had they acted more responsibly with the people's trusteeship and had been more cognizant of our desire to be free of their dominion, none of us would challenge their "privilege of governance". But that is not the case. They have proven themselves unworthy of our trust or respect. We no longer need them with their myriad of rules and regulations to "sculpture" our economy, dictate the way we do business, raise our families or follow our faith. We have fought to be free of the "Blue Bloods". Our elected officials need to represent the people's interests and not the special interests or the emerging American aristocracy. Our most powerful tool at our disposal can reverse this trend and restore our rightful governance. Exercise your right to vote and send a strong message to our "ruling gentry". Blue Bloods Need Not Apply. Remind these retched Blue Bloods that this country consists of only the Red, White and Blue bloods. Throw the bums out of office and join the Taboo Party. Understanding of the physical and social world yields easily to those with sufficient curiosity and determination to seek the truth. But what exactly is the truth It was once thought that a black hole was an astronomical oddity when first discovered at the center of our galaxy. The belief was quickly debunked when scientists discovered other black holes that freely populated the universe within countless millions of galaxies. A crime is committed and the likely suspect is condemned to a life sentence. Years later the prisoner is released after DNA evidence clears the suspect of all charges. The earth was the center of the universe about which all celestial bodies revolved. It was deemed heresy to believe otherwise. Fortunately, Copernicus found evidence to the contrary. In all of these instances our world has changed and all had to face a new "truth". Some still cling to the former belief and gradually, if not reluctantly, assimilate the new truth into their worldly view. But in all cases our inner most beliefs were challenged and we were required to change our thoughts about generally accepted truths. When we elected our representatives to public office, we believed deeply that they would act in our best interests and support the Constitution they swore to uphold. Congressional Oath of Office: It may be uncomfortable for many of us to acknowledge that our Congressmen are not working in our best interests and supporting the Constitution. It is no longer a generally accepted "truth". Abiding by the will of the People does not get them reelected. The "truth" of the matter is Special Interests get them elected. Special Interests provide the much needed "war chest" to assure the Incumbent can defeat any Challenger. But they neglected to remember that we ultimately determine their fate with our vote. That is most certainly "true"! Exercise your vote for all Challengers; end the litany of untruths and Throw All Bums Out of Office. The Taboo Party is an acronym for "Throw All Bums Out of Office". Remember when you received your first new product - a washing machine, dryer, refrigerator or television? When it was delivered, the installers were neatly clad in clean overalls and some even sported a special servicemens hat. Back in the 50 Today, deliveries are usually subcontracted. The personal service and pride that once was the hallmark of customer service are now once removed from the manufacturer or service provider. The typical installer is dressed in jeans (sometimes tattered and worn) sporting a baseball cap facing the wrong direction. They seem to know less about their company than you do and much less care. For most of them it is a job and not a profession. If there is a problem, an 800 number is your There is a reasonable explanation for this business phenomenon. As growth of major businesses continues and replace our local or community small business owner, the need to regionalize and cut costs results in the depersonalization of customer concerns. Without a local contact (a neighbor, a friend, a long time community business owner) the ability to air a grievance and receive immediate and proper attention is gone. Topic 1Many political groups are coalescing to combat the abuses of our government and the unrepresentative nature of our Congress. Some of their strategies that have been offered for the 2010 elections include but are not limited to a third party candidacy, fortifying and revitalizing beleaguered political parties and defeating particularly unsavory elements of the current administration's plans. All embrace kernels of truth and are well deliberated but all are devoid of the larger issue. If these movements intend to rebuild a government of the people, for the people and by the people, then reelecting Incumbents is not the answer and should not be the platform upon which to take back America. Career Politicians are like wolves. All wolves like sheep's clothing and only Little Red Ridinghood would ever trust them Collusion is the name of the game in Washington. Once in office they quickly adorn a "wooly" exterior but they are still, nonetheless, wolves. Washington is still a country club and only those of the same breed and background and who can be "trusted" by the membership are admitted. If they intend to remain loyal members of the club then how can we trust the Incumbents to do the "right" thing regardless of party affiliations? The simple truth is we just can't anymore. What we need instead is a clean slate. New blood, fresh ideas and above all, character. Character is simply lacking in this current entourage of Congressional "public servants". If the house is crumbling and the foundation is weakened, patchwork repairs will not save it. It would be far more expedient and pragmatic for the integrity of the structure to be torn down and rebuilt with a fortified foundation using the mortar of the Constitution and the spirit of the American people than to rely on those same government "engineers" that have been on retainer for many years and only know how to build bridges to nowhere. Topic 4An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before but had once failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich. Socialism is the great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. The lessons learned transcend the college life. In real life socialism eliminates incentives, demoralizes the populous, bankrupts a nation and simply does not work. Remember, there are others tests in our future. The election of 2010 is the mid-term and 2012 is the final exam. Vote for all Challengers and Throw All Bums Out of Office. |
